Algeria prepare for Zambia clash in Africa Cup of Nations qualifier

The Algeria national team is preparing to face Zambia on Friday, 25 September, at the Stade Hocine Aït Ahmed in Tizi-Ouzou in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. The match comes as the Algerian side looks to rebound from a period of inconsistent form.

Midfielder Farès Chaïbi is out with illness and Yassine Titraoui is sidelined with a hamstring injury. Algeria currently sit third in their World Cup qualifying group with 4 points from 3 games, their last result a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland on 3 July.

The Zambian squad has arrived in Algeria, with forward Joseph Liteta arriving late last night and teammate Gampani Lungu landing in the early hours of Tuesday. Coach George Lwandamina expressed satisfaction with the players' commitment, describing their response as "encouraging." Assistant coach Andrew Sinkala has been excused from the camp to attend to personal matters.

Striker Gampani Lungu stated his team would not be intimidated by Algeria's reputation, saying, "It is not going to be easy, but I don’t think we should put ourselves under pressure." He added, "At the end of the day, it is 11 versus 11 on the field. Anyone can win." The Chipolopolo have focused on collective fighting spirit in their preparations.
