Algeria national football team's former coach Mohieddine Khalef passed away on Tuesday at the age of 80. Mohieddine Khalef is one of the most famous Algerian and Arab coaches in the history of football. He led the Algeria national football team to the final of the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations before losing the title to Nigeria. He also reached the semi-finals of the CAN in 1982 and 1984 and led the team during the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Khalef won the Algerian league title 8 times, in addition to winning the cup twice, and the African Champions Cup in 1981. The late coach also trained other Arab clubs such as Al Ain in the UAE, Ittihad Tanger and Mouloudia Oujda in Morocco, and ES Sahel in Tunisia. Mohieddine Khalef was the leader of the 1982 World Cup epic when he led his country's team to defeat Germany 2-1 and Chile 3-2. The Algeria national football team performed well under the leadership of Mohieddine Khalef and Rachid Mekhloufi in the 1982 World Cup. Khalef achieved many accomplishments with the Algeria national football team and other clubs.
