Luka Zidane Responds to Criticisms
Algeria's international goalkeeper, Luka Zidane, aged 28, has responded to the criticisms he faced over his selection for the national team. These criticisms centered around the idea that his inclusion was due to favoritism because of being the son of the French legend Zinedine Zidane.
International Goalkeeper's Response
In an interview with SEMANA, Luka stated: 'I know many people believe I joined the Algerian national team because of my father. While I understand this perspective, it is absolutely not true.'
He added: 'I have never received anything for free in football. I fought hard to develop my skills, and honestly, I owe a debt of gratitude to both my father and grandfather; they taught me the value of making sacrifices to achieve goals.'
Personal Decision
Despite the criticisms, Zidane emphasized that his decision to represent Algeria was personal and emotional. 'This decision wasn’t driven by favoritism or any other external factors. I made this choice based on my connection to my roots and my desire to defend the colors of the Saharan Warriors,' said the international goalkeeper.
His Participation with the Team
Luka Zidane has participated in both the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the recent World Cup, contributing to 10 international matches while playing for Spanish club Granada.
